Let's be realistic...
I don't often post on here but I do gaze upon the forums quite a lot.

I noticed somebody saying that playing Nolan will 'jeopardise our season' and we need to be careful we don't give our champions league position away to the Spuds. Why can't we all just enjoy being fucking fourth in the table rather than abusing the manager and the team who are, let's be fair, far outdoing season expectations?

I think a top 8 finish would be a remarkable achievement and beyond my wildest pre season expectatations. I cant see us finishing 4th, I think Arsenal will claim that spot. We could be in the race for 5th if we can keep this going, but let's see.
The worrying thing for me is keeping the nucleus of this team together. Can we keep Valencia, Song and Sakho without European competition on offer ?

I will be pleased if we are top 10 this season.

Liverpool and Tottenham look so far from convincing that I'd be dissappointed finishing below them, based on what I've seen so far this season. Forget historic normalities, just look at them, and us, now.

We will do better than those two, depending on the january window.

Arsenal and Everton are more likely to up their game, and Swansea and Newcastle look to me more convincing than spurs or L.pool.

Exactly to the main post/thread starter here. We are NOT going to finish 4th!! so enjoy it while it lasts. While it's unlikely but possible we'll finish above Spurs I think Arsenal will get their usual 4th spot. The quality in the Premier League is poor this season and only the money teams, Man C & Chelsea, predictably, sadly, are flying high. Top half finish will be great, above Liverpool and Spurs quality but not likely. It's been a good season for us so far so let's just enjoy it while it lasts.

Don't get me wrong I think he should be an impact player. He has been a terrific servant for the three years he's been here but should be coming off the bench now.

Still not a good enough reason to complain about drawing away to a team that have held better teams than us at home.

And yes it aggravates me a lot. Cunts.

I think that top 6 this season would be a magnificent achievement but anything below 10th will be disappointing given the start we have had, although would be still doing well against pre season expectations.

6th-8th and decent cup run will set us up well for our last season at the Boleyn

Based on what I read on WHO these days, they would have us believe that teams like Chelsea, Man City etc HAVE no forums...

After all, they are constantly in the top four, so their fans clearly have nothing to discuss, debate or disagree about...

Re: Let's be realistic...
This season up to now has been fantastic.I doubt anyone of us would have thought we would be in this position approaching Christmas. However we should keep our feet on the ground as we have a difficult set of fixtures over the Christmas period starting with Chelsea away on boxing day. Then we are going to be without 3 influential players for several weeks due to their involvement in the ANC.Missing hard games against Man utd,Swansea & Liverpool away where we have not won for donkeys years.I hope I am wrong but I think come the end of January it is likely we will be outside the top 6 possibly top 8.When we get the ANC players back in February we can regroup and push on again and hopefully challenge for a place in the Europa cup.

Re: Let's be realistic...
Nolan has come in for Noble and to add a bit more of a goal threat from midfield. Nothing more than that. In my mind Nolan is worth a start when Noble is out.

The player who misses out is Amaltifano who is unlucky. But I suppose Sam looks at Carroll's return to playing and to form as adding weight to Nolan's starts in front of Amaltifano.

All these people look at the conspiracy are bonkers. It's nothing more than a toss up between Nolan and Amaltifano as to who replaces Noble.

Against Sunderland Sam threw caution to the wind and took Nolan off for Valencia. So you can't have a dig at the bloke for being negative. Carroll, Valencia and Sakho on the pitch at once! Makes a difference to CFC up front on his own.

Just enjoy the ride.

Couldn't agree more, Plaistow.

We're beginning to sound like the Y words, Geordies, Gooners etc

In fact any set of fans that feel they're entitled to something.

Plaistow.

I understand where you're coming from but I think we would be a better team if Nolan sat on the bench during our games, I think that no matter what position we're in.

On another point, do you get annoyed when the people on the tube refer to Plaistow as place-tow?

True, I'm one of the ones that thinks Nolan should be benched, by the same token in one of the ones who thinks the vitriol and anger aimed at Nolan and Sam is totally ott.

There are some on here who actually believe they know the outcome of games in an alternative universe where they make the decisions.

Re: Let's be realistic...
Ive read on here that everyone is 'slamming' the manager and players, I dont agree with that, theres a few that are vitriolic towards Nolan thats true but I think mostly its been a discussion about who you would prefer playing and how we play, thats fair enough surely.

theaxeman 9:59 Mon Dec 15
Re: Let's be realistic...
Realistic aim for us with the players we have at the moment is to go out and attack teams, knock the ball about a bit, play some decent football! Thats the priority for me, I just hope that takes us somewhere, If not we'll have had a good seasons football.

Re: Let's be realistic...
We have a very tough Xmas period coming up and we WILL have a bad run at some point, like Southampton are having right now.

Arsenal, Totts are picking up points and Liverpool I'm sure will sort themselves out soon.

It's gonna be carnage on here when we do eventually start slipping down the table, judging by some of the ridiculous posts after Sunderland away. Some on here are expecting/predicting us to beat Leicester 4-0! Why? Leicester have lost most of their games by 1 goal. If everyone turns up at the weekend and sits there in silence waiting for the goals to fly in....we might very well come right unstuck..

If we don't make the Champions League, Sam definitely has to go.

Club destroying cunt.

Re: Let's be realistic...
For me, top 6 would be a great season, top 8 a good season. You'd argue that given our recent history top 8 would be 'great' but I honestly think we have players in our squad now who are genuine winners and they are bringing the others along with them.

If you look at the bottom half of the table, we are a better team & squad than any of them, so whilst keeping our feet on the ground we should now have an expectancy of staying top 8 with a target of top 6.

Top 4 and CL would make us look a bit daft next year or it may be a decider for some players when they are approached by us in the summer.

Acknowledging that we will lose some class in the African cup etc, we should still target top 8 as minimum expectancy now.

I've followed the club since '65 as a kid, and apart from the '80 cup run and when we finished 3rd with Cottee and McV I haven't bee so excited about a WH side since then.

Never thought I'd see it again, loads to look forward to now.

I would seriously consider trading a child to keep Song as well.. :-)

Re: Let's be realistic...
Just 'enjoying being fourth' leaves you with not much to talk about. Even on a good run, the manager and players are still susceptible to mistakes and poor decisions.

Re: Let's be realistic...
I am with you on this Plaistow and although I am certain that Nolan is past his best I cannot see any reason to abuse him in the way that many do on here. Imo he has been a good player and a decent captain for us.

Re: Let's be realistic...
The answer is simple Plaistow, a lot of people made themselves look very foolish with various comments about players and manager last season, and are now desperately looking for justification.
